Our programs are designed to equip young women with the knowledge they need to live successful adult lives.

Women in Transition, Inc., is a one year, self-discovery and workforce development initiative serving young women, ages 14-21 in foster care in Baltimore City.  Our goal is to assist them in creating and executing a transition plan to have a successful life when foster care ends at age 21.  The Transition Planning Institute and continuous support are how we achieve our goal. Through transition planning, young women learn to embrace the transitioning process and exit foster care equipped to live healthy independent lives.

Transition Planning I: Work Ready

In collaboration with Baltimore Youthworks, WIT emphasizes self-employment and freelance opportunities using social media marketing in a virtual economy.  Participants develop their entrepreneurial skills and learn to create remote working environments.

Sessions are held in the Summer.

Transition Planning II: Literacy and Internship

Summer Learning Loss can greatly impact students in the foster care system. Literacy and Internship focuses on achieving and maintaining grade level performance.

Sessions are held in the Fall.

Transition Planning III: Vision Planning

Individualized planning sessions designed to help young women finalize and execute their transition plan. They are guided through writing out a detailed plan of action for their final months in foster care.

Sessions are held in the Spring.

Transition Planning IV: Alumni Support

After Care Support engages and monitors WIT graduates once they complete the Transition Planning workshop series.  One-on-One mentoring encourages continued self-care and a successful execution of their Transition Plan.
